We are honored to announce that longtime friends of the Ranching Heritage Association, Charlotte and John Kimberlin, have made a transformative $2.5 million gift to the Red Steagall Institute for Traditional Western Arts. In recognition of their extraordinary support, the Institute’s welcome gallery will proudly bear the Kimberlins’ name.

As the first space visitors will encounter when they enter the Institute, the Kimberlin Welcome Gallery will provide an introduction to the Institute’s mission and the traditions it was created to preserve. The gallery will also tell a story of the Kimberlins’ own connection to the American West and their commitment to preserving its history and heritage for future generations.

Featured in the gallery will be the Kimberlin on the Brazos Ranch, a historic property with deep ties to the Texas cattle trail era. The ranch was one of the locations where Oliver Loving gathered cattle for his legendary trail drives. Visitors will also learn about the Hat Creek Ranch in New Mexico, where scenes from Lonesome Dove were filmed, connecting the space to the Western stories that have shaped generations of Americans’ understanding of the West.

The Kimberlins’ gift represents a significant investment in the future of the Red Steagall Institute and its mission to celebrate and preserve traditional Western arts, education and the ranching way of life. Through their generosity, Charlotte and John Kimberlin are helping create a place where visitors can experience these traditions, discover the stories behind them and gain a deeper appreciation for the people and places that continue to shape the ranching legacy.
